In the oriental world, bathing in the hamam has been a cultural asset for many centuries. The ornate public baths and steam baths are places full of tradition and soothing bathing rituals. The hamam towel (pestemal), spun from the finest threads, also plays an important role here. The high-quality cloth is soft on the skin and dries quickly. We got to know it in the hamam in Turkey and were enthusiastic about the cuddly material.
WHAT MEANS HAND WOVEN
Our hammam towels are hand woven in small traditional factories in Turkey. Only premium quality Turkish cotton is used. The warp threads are twisted in by women working at home. Because a real Pestemal or Hamamtuch comes namely without a single pinprick. The result of this artful and time-consuming handwork is the finest cloth, flowing lightweights that you don’t want to take off your skin. The combination of high quality cotton and traditional weaving creates a product of the highest quality and authenticity.

Our pestemal weighs about 275g and is 100cm x180cm. It weighs only a third compared to a terry cloth bath towel of the same size.

HAMAM TOWELS CARE AND WASHING
By using only high quality cotton, our hammam towels are also extremely durable and easy to clean.
Our pestemals are best washed at 30-40 degrees C in the washing machine. They become even softer with each wash. The tumble dryer is not recommended, and not necessary, because they quickly dry in the air.
Furthermore, before the first wash, we recommend tightening the knots on the fringes so that they do not come loose and remain beautiful for a long time.
Our hamam towels are environmentally friendly. Since they require less volume in the washing machine they are detergent and energy saving.
HAMAM TOWEL AGAINST GERMS AND AS A HYGIENIC ALTERNATIVE
Normal towels promote germs and bacteria, as the moisture and often warm environment make them an ideal breeding ground for them. Our hammam towels are particularly hygienic, because they dry very quickly, because they do not store moisture inside like terry towels or sports towels, and thus give germs less chance.
PRODUCTION UNDER FAIR CONDITIONS
The factories in which our pestemals are manufactured are exclusively small and medium-sized companies in Turkey, most of which are family-run and employ only a few people. Through many years of experience over generations, the companies, and their employees are specialized in the production of hammam towels and manufacture on their own looms. These looms are operated exclusively by adults.
Production takes place under fair conditions and equally fair prices.
